TeraStation functions as a client of an Active Directory domain, so that domain users and groups can be used. This means that they can be used in domain environments of companies with up to 10,000 users and groups.

Hot-swap function increases data security

With the hot swap function, the Buffalo´s NAS automatically switches off the defective hard disk even if one hard disk fails, so that it can be replaced safely without interrupting work or losing data.

Replication with Buffalo´s NAS

By replication, a folder in two separate NAS is synchronized almost in real time. This only happens in one direction (not bi-directional) – from the source to the destination. This function can be set up in LAN and WAN. WAN setup includes remote connection via port forwarding and VPN setup.

It is possible to share files or share content with everyone or with specified users. For example you upload a picture and sent the link to someone. It is as easy as right click the picture and chose the option “share file by email” Of course it is possible to use other methods like FTP for example. However, the Buffalo WebAccess gives you the benefit of an easier setup and an intuitive web interface with icons, picture preview and gallery. Unified Storage

proNAS 3.1 is a unified storage system that integrates NAS (Network Attached Storage), Fibre SAN and IP SAN (iSCSI) to provide both file-level and block-level data access. There are various host interface such as 1Gb/s and 10Gb/s Ethernet, 8Gb/s Fiber channel, or 16Gb/s Fiber channel for options, so it’s very flexible for users to adopt the necessary interface to meet their specific application requirements.

Virtualization

proNAS 3.1 supports virtualization station (VM on NAS) and VMware VAAI to speed up performance under VMware environment. Deduplication

Central manager

High Availability

proNAS 3.1 offers up to 2 nodes active/standby high-availability service for storage which ensures no service down time when any NAS server failed. The HA service can automatically initiate a failover operation to transfer the data service to its partner storage systems to ensure data security.

Thin-Provisioning

All volumes can be configured with thin provisioning to optimize storage capacity and further reduce cost. With Thin provisioning support, proNAS can increase storage utilization by allowing dedicate more storage than the actual capacity.
